R&D signature travel training service has been successful in training thousands of adults with developmental disabilities to access the public transit systems within their communities. Trainees are trained to utilize public transit systems between their home and instructional facility, or place of business. Individuals who participate gain the confidence with their newly found independence, increased employment options and opportunities for social activities. The Regional Center/School district benefits in the more seats that become available on the curb-to-curb service for riders who cannot participate in the R&D Community Travel Training Program. This allows the agency to practice cost containment, while continuing to serve the needs of their community. Public transit agencies benefit from the increase of ridership for those who succeed with travel training. It is a win for all.
